Sheila Pope
Sheila Pope was born in England and came to live in New Zealand at a young age. Her first instrument was ukelele that she played at home. She eventually began playing bass guitar at the age of 30 and has continued to be a bassist for almost 48 years. One of her associates told her that not singing was "wasted space", encouraging her to start singing on her playing gigs.
Sheila has always enjoyed a wide variety of genres of music, but mostly country is her love. Country influences such as Emmy Lou Harris, Merle Haggard, and Alison Moorer directly influenced her choice of songs to shine on. Sheila also plays lap steel guitar which keeps her steadily involved in the country music scene, allowing her to perform in bands.
"Blue Moon and Roses" is her latest album and available directly from her.
